Humbucker loving high gain, vintage inspired, one knob fuzz pedal.
Using BC183L and BC108 transistors, Achieving high gain Fuzztones and capable of amp buckling volume. This my homage to the company that started the whole thing, Solasound! who bought us the badass full on fuzz that is the 'Tonebender' and its much overlooked cousin the 'Colorsound One Knob Fuzz' - born of the musical history soup of the 60s and 70s, with a handful of UK designers producing so many classic fuzzes. Its the fuzzfaces louder big brother who isn't scared to rip your face off with massive tones. One knob, one fuzz.
Tonebender and Colorsound Fuzz are trademarks of Solasound Ltd.
My take on the classic ColorSound one knob fuzz uses a BC183L and BC108 transistors. Carefully matched and tuned for a balance between saturation and rich harmonic mid focused content. Make no mistake this fuzz takes no prisoners, but has poise with it.
Unlike a lot of vintage style fuzz, this one LOVES Les Pauls or other humbucker type guitars humbuckers come alive in a way that just wants you to keep playing! don't get me wrong strat and single coils sound pretty awesome too! But the edge of note and clarity this fuzz imparts on HB equipped guitars is a revelation.
THESE PEDALS ARE MADE IN BATCHES
I notify via my newsletter when a new batch is available, so if you are interested join the newsletter to keep upto date.
I build these fuzz pedals in my garden workshop in Northamptonshire UK. This includes drilling, and acid etching my design onto the enclosures, constructing the entire circuit ‘Point to Point’ only using the components, and a phenolic resin support board. There's no printed circuit board or circuit traces to dilute your signal purity. I finish the entire pedal to a standard that I think looks as good inside, as it sounds on the outside. It might be covered up but when you’re in that moment you KNOW the mojo you have under the hood.
Please be aware, these are totally hand built and so there might me some slight cosmetic variation between each pedal. The acid ecthing process produces a gunmetal patina on the enclosure with will vary from pedal to pedal. This is most noticable on the sides and imparts a unique character to each pedal. Toneally, I play each one to make sure they sound as good as the first one, before signing off, no tone generator, no gadgets – just a telecaster and my ears.
Please note, all my silicon pedals have a boss style 2.1 center negative DC jack only, there is no battery snap. silicon transistors are not sensitive to DC supply type unlike their germainium counterparts.
